Studio Sessions

1:1 or 1:2 Studio Inductions provide a relaxed introduction to the studio and the ceramic process.
Inductions
1. 2-hours £50 - 1:1 / £75 - 1:2 session
2. Choose wheel throwing or hand-building
3. We’ll cover studio layout and workflow, clay preparation, and the fundamentals
  (on the wheel: centering, pulling up, and simple forms)
The aim is to get you confident and enjoying yourself. Ceramics is a slow process, so these sessions are about having a go and learning the skills necessary to use the studio independently.
Freedom Sessions give you independent studio time to make at your own pace and at a time that suits you. We’re always happy to offer advice and guidance should you need it.
Freedom Sessions
1. Choose wheel throwing or hand-building and length of session - 2hrs, 4hrs, or All Day.
2. We provide the equipment, hand tools, glazes and expertise so you can turn up, relax and create.
3. Work you wish to have fired can be weighed and paid before drying. This covers your materials, glazes, and both firings.
We appreciate it’s not always possible to commit to the same time and day each week, so these sessions provide a flexible way of working.
Our Classes and workshops are a great way to improve your technique, learn new skills, and push your ceramics knowledge further.
From construction techniques and surface decoration to glaze exploration, our Wednesday afternoon workshops explore areas of the ceramics process in more depth.
Wheel classes offer a great foundation in throwing work on the pottery wheel, while hand-building classes are a relaxed way to make with others and learn some new techniques along the way.

Clayfolk Inductions

Our inductions provide a practical introduction to our space, equipment, and processes.
Designed to help you move confidently towards independent projects and studio use, these sessions are broken down into stages so you can just have a go, or go all the way - taking a lump of clay and transforming it into a finished piece!

1. Let's Throw some Pots!

Wheel Induction Part I
Duration: 2hrs
1:1 - £50 or bring a friend for £75 total.
In your first wheel throwing session, we’ll guide you through selecting and preparing your clay, then how to centre, cone, and open on the wheel. From here, we’ll explore pulling up the walls and shaping some simple forms. Throwing takes time and practice to master; repetition is key to improving!
Any pots you make can be stored in our fridges while they firm up, ready to come back and trim.
2. Trim and refine

Wheel Induction Part II
Duration: 2hrs
1:1 - £35 or bring a friend for £60 total
Your pots have now started to firm up and are ready to refine.
In this follow on session we’ll show you how to handle trimming tools to shape the base and sides while removing excess clay. Any remaining time can be spent throwing some more pots or just recapping on the techniques previously learnt.
From here, the pots you wish to keep can be dried ready for their first bisque firing so they can then be glazed.
3. Glazing

Wheel Induction Part III
Duration: 1hr
1:1 £25 or bring a friend for £40 total
You’ve now thrown and refined your first pots. They have been bisque fired at 985°C and are ready to be glazed!
In this session we’ll explore a range of different finishes that can be applied to your work from underglazes, oxides, to studio and commercial glazes. We’ll help you plan how to apply them and clean the undersides ready for their final firing.
Once they are fired, we’ll let you know when they can be collected.
